Pan Fried Drumstick Recipe
Cooking with chicken gives us options. Whether it’s wholly grilled or minced, cooked with greens or a dollop of butter and cream, made into a clear soup or a spicy curry, chicken rules the roost. Chicken is one meat that adapts to any flavor and requires minimum effort. No wonder it’s been popular even during 600 BC, if the Babylonian carvings have to be believed.
I often tend to experiment this beautiful white meat in different ways. And last day, when Jumpy (my 4 year old lab) and me were returning from our daily walk, I got a sudden craving for grilled chicken. As it was almost 11 in the night, and no outlet in my vicinity were open to satiate my craving, the only option was to create something on my own with the two chicken legs that were resting inside the refrigerator.
While the original idea was only limited to the pan fried drumstick, the sauce was something that I added in the last minute to give it that extra yum factor. Try it, it’s simple and definitely worth the taste.

1/2 tsp ketchup
1/2 tsp herbed butter
Paprika 1tsp
Garlic flakes 1tsp
Oil 2tsp
Maida 3 tsp
Water 3 tsp
Onion one large
Tomato half medium
Chilli flakes 1/2 tsp
Milk cream 2 tbps
Salt to taste
Method ( Pan fried drumstick )
Take a chicken leg and lightly poke both sides of it with a knife. Poke till the meat is a bit lose but should not be cut out. Now rub garlic paste, salt, pepper sauce, ketchup, paprika powder, dried garlic flakes. Put three tsp maida in three tsp water and mix it into a thick batter. Rub the maida paste on the marinated chicken leg. Coat it well on both the side. In a non-stick pan, use 1 tsp of oil and 1tsp of herbed butter.
Once it heats place the chicken leg on the pan and let it sizzle. After five minutes, flip the leg and let the other side sizzle. Keep the heat low all the while. While the chicken is cooking, finely chop an onion and put it on the sides of the chicken leg. Don’t mix. Cut half a tomato, chop into fine pieces and put it along with the onion. flip the chicken leg again and Sprinkle some chilli flakes and cover the pan. Let it cook for 5 mins and put the flame out.
Let it rest in the pan for another 6 mins. Now to serve, place the drumstick on a plate. In the pan, pour 2tbsp of fresh milk cream and mix it with the onion and tomatoes. Sprinkle a pinch of salt if needed. Now put your caramalized onion cream on the sides of your drumstick. Enjoy the sinfully soft and spiced up chicken with that delicious onion sauce.
